What is 09CrCuSb steel?

09CrCuSb steel is a corrosion-resistant structural steel defined by the Chinese GB/T standard. It contains about 0.09% carbon, along with alloying elements such as chromium (Cr ≈ 0.3–0.6%), copper (Cu ≈ 0.2–0.4%), and antimony (Sb ≈ 0.05–0.10%). These elements provide strong resistance to atmospheric, seawater, and sulfuric acid corrosion, particularly in environments involving flue gas or acidic condensates. Compared with ordinary carbon steels, 09CrCuSb offers significantly improved durability and service life in corrosive industrial conditions.

Mechanically, the steel has moderate strength and toughness. Typical tensile strength is around 400–550 MPa, with yield strength of 250–400 MPa and elongation of 20% or higher, depending on heat treatment and plate thickness. It maintains good weldability and formability, allowing fabrication without the need for preheating or post-weld heat treatment under most conditions.

09CrCuSb is primarily used in applications that demand both structural integrity and corrosion resistance, such as flue gas desulfurization systems, chimneys, heat exchangers, condensers, and pressure vessels exposed to acid dew point corrosion. It serves as a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel, offering reliable anti-corrosion performance at a lower material cost, making it widely adopted in power plants, petrochemical facilities, and environmental engineering.
