SUP6 | 9260 | 60Si2Mn Steel Plate
60Si2Mn steel is a high-strength spring steel containing about 0.60% carbon, along with silicon and manganese for enhanced toughness and elasticity.
It is widely used in manufacturing heavy-duty springs, suspension components, railway clips, and other parts that require high fatigue resistance, resilience, and wear resistance under repeated stress.
What is 60Si2Mn steel?
60Si2Mn steel is a high-strength spring steel with a carbon content of approximately 0.56–0.64%, enhanced with 1.50–2.00% silicon and 0.60–0.90% manganese. This alloying combination provides excellent elasticity, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance, making it one of the most widely used spring steels. Its tensile strength generally reaches ≥1270 MPa after heat treatment, yield strength is around ≥1176 MPa, elongation is typically 7–12%, and Brinell hardness in the annealed condition is about 197–255 HB. When quenched and tempered, its hardness can exceed 45–52 HRC, offering a strong balance between strength and toughness.
60Si2Mn steel has moderate machinability and poor weldability but responds well to quenching and tempering, ensuring long service life under repeated stress conditions. It is commonly used in the manufacture of automotive suspension springs, railway clips, heavy machinery springs, and other critical components that require high fatigue strength and durability. Due to its cost-effectiveness and reliable performance, 60Si2Mn remains a preferred choice for high-demand spring applications in both automotive and industrial engineering fields.
Overview
The surface treatment of the steel plate can be either cold-rolled or hot-rolled.
60Si2Mn steel is a high-strength spring steel, categorized as an alloy structural steel with added silicon and manganese to improve toughness, elasticity, and fatigue resistance.
After quenching and tempering, it achieves high tensile strength, excellent elasticity, and superior wear resistance, making it more suitable for heavy-duty applications than many medium-carbon steels.
ZGT Steel supports various hardness customizations and OEM processing services to meet diverse requirements. Healthy inventories of 60Si2Mn steel plate are maintained in all ZGT® Steel distribution centers.
The material can be forged, riveted, or bolted, but welding performance is relatively poor. It shows reliable performance in demanding mechanical and spring applications, such as automotive suspension systems, railway clips, and heavy machinery springs.

Benefits of 60Si2Mn Steel Plate
In the quenched and tempered condition, 60Si2Mn steel offers high tensile strength, excellent elasticity, and outstanding fatigue resistance.
With its silicon and manganese content, it provides superior resilience, wear resistance, and impact strength compared to plain carbon spring steels, making it highly reliable for heavy-duty applications.
Although it has limited weldability, it can still be processed through forging, hot rolling, precision machining, and surface treatment methods.
These properties make 60Si2Mn steel an ideal material for manufacturing automotive suspension springs, railway fasteners, heavy machinery springs, and other components subjected to repeated dynamic loads.
Applications & Industries
60Si2Mn steel is widely used for components requiring high elasticity, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance, such as automotive suspension springs, valve springs, clutch springs, and railway fasteners. It is also applied in the production of heavy-duty machinery springs, construction machinery parts, and mining equipment components that must endure repeated stress and impact. In the mechanical sector, 60Si2Mn steel is employed for torsion bars, load-bearing parts, and resilient connectors where high strength and durability are essential. Within the transportation and industrial engineering industries, it is favored for critical components that demand long service life under fluctuating loads.
Additionally, 60Si2Mn steel finds application in the automotive, railway, and heavy machinery manufacturing industries, where its combination of toughness, resilience, and cost-effectiveness makes it a trusted choice for high-performance spring and load-bearing solutions.
