What is steel grade Creusabro4800?

What is Creusabro4800 steel?
Creusabro® patented steel plates are high-performance patented wear-resistant steel plates produced by Industeel from French, available in four grades: Creusabro® 4800, 8000, Dual, and Mn. The wear resistance of Creusabro® is not merely determined by its hardness in the as-delivered state. Its chemical composition and microstructure significantly influence its actual in-service performance, enabling it to meet the demands of harsh working conditions. Unlike traditional low-alloy martensitic wear-resistant steel plates, Creusabro® is designed to effectively combine high wear resistance with easy machinability. Benefiting from innovative metallurgical concepts, specific chemical compositions, and production processes, Creusabro® can be applied in extremely harsh working environments and extend the service life of wear-resistant components compared to conventional wear-resistant steel plates.

What is Creusabro4800 steel equivalent to?
Creusabro4800 is a patented steel of French Industeel Company, and there is no other standard grade that completely corresponds to it. However, from the perspective of performance and composition, it has similarities with some common wear-resistant steels, such as:
Compared with China NM400 : Both are wear-resistant steels, the hardness of Creusabro4800 is about 370HB, and the hardness of NM400 is usually around 400HB, which is relatively close. However, Creusabro4800 is unique in alloy composition design and production process, and its wear resistance, processing performance and comprehensive performance may be better.
Compared with Swedish Hard**400: Hard**400 is a widely used wear-resistant steel plate with a hardness of about 400HB. Compared with it, Creusabro4800 has its own characteristics in wear resistance, and performs well in comprehensive performance such as toughness and weldability.
However, these comparisons are only rough references. Creusabro4800 has its own unique performance advantages and applicable scenarios, and cannot be simply replaced by other brands.
What is the hardness of Creusabro4800?
The hardness of Creusabro4800 is usually expressed in the following two ways:
- Hardness in delivery state: The general guaranteed value is 340-400HB, and the typical value is 370HB.
- Hardness in service state: In service state, due to local plastic deformation of the material caused by abrasive particle extrusion, rock impact, etc., surface hardening will occur, and the hardness can be increased by about 70HB, that is, it can reach 410-470HB, and it is generally believed that it can reach about 430HB.

What are the properties of Creusabro4800 material?
Surface hardening
Under the action of local plastic deformation caused by impact, extrusion and friction, the wear resistance can be greatly improved during use through surface hardening up to +70 HB. This is the so-called TRIP effect (phase transformation induced hardening).
Deep hardening
The (oil quenching) process with controlled cooling rate makes the hardness uniform throughout the steel plate, and the low residual stress inside the steel plate ensures the safety of the steel plate.

What Are the advantages of Using Creusabro4800 steel Plate?
What are the advantages of Using Creusabro4800 steel Plate?
- Exceptional Wear Resistance
-
- Offers over 50% longer wear life than traditional 400HB quenched steel. Its special alloy composition (chromium, nickel, molybdenum, titanium) and heat treatment process enable surface hardening during service, enhancing resistance to abrasion.
- Superior Toughness
-
- Achieves an impact energy of ≥32J at -20°C, ensuring excellent resistance to impact loads. This prevents brittle fracture in high-impact environments, making it suitable for rugged applications.
- Easy Machinability
-
- Maintains moderate hardness in the as-delivered state, facilitating cutting, machining, and forming—processes that are easier than with conventional quenched wear-resistant steels. This reduces processing costs and improves efficiency.
- High Temperature Resistance
-
- Retains hardness up to 450°C due to its unique chemical composition and microstructure, while traditional quenched steels lose hardness above 250°C. Ideal for high-temperature industrial applications.
- Low Internal Stress
-
- Produced via soft quenching, the steel has minimal residual stress, preventing deformation during and after cutting. It also achieves flatness within 5mm/m without cold working, ensuring dimensional accuracy.
What are the disadvantages of Using Creusabro4800 Steel Plate?
- Higher Cost
-
- Complex alloy composition and specialized production processes drive up manufacturing costs, making Creusabro4800 more expensive than conventional wear-resistant steels. This may increase material expenses for end products.
- Stringent Welding Requirements
-
- While compatible with all traditional welding processes, it demands precise control over welding parameters and specific filler materials to avoid defects. Improper welding can compromise joint performance.
- Limited Application in Extreme Environments
-
- Although versatile, it may require additional surface treatments or composite solutions for scenarios demanding ultra-high corrosion or oxidation resistance. Its inherent properties may not fully satisfy extremely harsh conditions.
